GOALS OF SOMARK
SOMARK is a San Diego-based life sciences technology company focused on the goal of improving research processes with a better lab-animal ID system. SOMARK’s Labstamp ID system creates automated tail tattoos for mouse identification. Labstamp, which is a non-FDA regulated machine, provides pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology companies, breeders, CROs (Contract Research Organizations), government labs, and research institutes with a more reliable ID system that prevents misidentified mice and reduces labor costs.

OPPORTUNITY FOR THE TEAM MEMBER
The individual will lead manufacturing from strategy to daily operations and from concept to implementation. The individual will work closely, yet independently, with the Chief Science Officer and engineering team. RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage contract manufacturers producing high-volume disposable system components
• Develop manufacturing methods (in-house & contracted) for low-volume electro-mechanical systems
• Assess manufacturability of current designs and lead design changes to ensure manufacturability
• Determine manufacturing methods for system components based on volume, target cost, and complexity
• Lead vendor selection process to achieve best time to market, cost and quality
• Provide technical input regarding injection mold tooling, form-fill-seal processes, and production machining
• Create necessary documentation to maintain good manufacturing practices
• Oversee manufacturing processes including internal and external operations (inventory & vendors)

BACKGROUND QUALIFICATIONS
• Proficient in SolidWorks
• Demonstrated results in leading products from prototype to manufacturing
• Demonstrated results in design and procurement of plastic injection molding tools
• Demonstrated results in low-volume, cost-effective manufacturing methods such as machining, casting, and reaction injection molding
• Demonstrated results in managing outside contract manufacturers
• Demonstrated results in selecting manufacturing methods for low-volume electro-mechanical assemblies
• Familiarity with form-fill-seal, web coating, or disposables manufacturing
• Knowledge of high-volume sterilization and aseptic manufacturing

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
• Full-time employment in San Diego, CA
• B.S. degree in appropriate engineering discipline with 10 years of relevant experience
• Demonstrated results with related products (medical device experience is not required)
• Start-up company environment experience
