Description: Job Title: R&D Nucleotide and Small Molecule Scientist – Chemistry 2017 MA_01
Independently and as part of a team, design, implement, analyze and execute laboratory experiments leading to the development of new nucleotide triphosphate analogs and small molecule linkers.
Provide cross disciplinary support and expertise to accomplish team goals as directed.
Strong initiative and ability to take ownership of challenging problems.
Provide complete flash chromatography, HPLC, MS and NMR analytical data sets for all construct isolates to support continued synthesis direction.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of efforts and results in sufficient detail to enable patent applications as appropriate and to develop SOP’s.
Conduct daily laboratory activities safely and in compliance with all corporate SOPs.
Required Experience & Skills:
Experience in multi-step organic synthesis design, execution and optimization.
Hands on successful experience in multistep heteroaromatic small molecule and nucleoside analogs synthesis.
Proficiency in labile protecting group strategies and linker design.
Working knowledge of standard analytical and preparative chemistry techniques including NMR, LCMS, FPLC, HPLC, TLC, and flash chromatography.
Must think critically and creatively and demonstrate ability to access scientific literature to solve novel synthesis problems.
Ability to interact effectively and directly within a multi-disciplinary team in a dynamic startup environment
Strong written and verbal communications skills.
Desired Experience & Skills:
Peptide synthesis and bioconjugation experience is a plus.
Ion exchange chromatography experience.
Thiol chemistry, protection, deprotection and disulfide bond formation experience.
Waste reduction and green chemistry principles.
Educational Level, Educational Disciplines:
Requires a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Chemical Biology or Biochemistry.
Proven record of scientific achievement through publications in peer-reviewed journals.
2 yrs+ relevant industry experience.
