It’s that time of year again, we’re planning the 2011 San Diego Biotech Network calendar and need your input. Two great local companies, TriLink Biotechnologies and MO BIO Laboratories, have generously donated calendars for us to give as prizes for filling out our survey. The TriLink calendar is a full sized wall calendar and has beautiful photos taken in San Diego, and has important dates and special offers throughout 2011. The MO BIO calendar is smaller, perfect to have handy near your lab bench, and has pictures from exotic places …

Posted by Mary Canady October 29th, 2010 .

Tremendous change is sweeping healthcare, much of it driven by legislative reform and the convergence of the healing arts with advances in wireless, Internet, and other information technologies. Can advances in remote sensing enable patients to convalesce at home while their physicians monitor and interact with them from afar? Can employers tap emerging technology to help their employees not just save money but improve …

It’s hard to believe it, but two years ago in November of 2008, we had our first SDBN event featuring Sapphire Energy at Rock Bottom in La Jolla. We soon outgrew that venue and have found a nice home at Tango del Rey, a one-of-a-kind location in PB which we feel is amenable to networking. Trius Therapeutics is a great local company which recently had an initial public offering (IPO), quite a feat in this economy. What is the secret to their success? They focus on antibacterials for life threatening applications, and have used a creative combination of licensing and funding to build a strong portfolio in that area. Working with bacterial proteins helps Trius to leverage structure-based drug design (SBDD) technologies to efficiently optimize lead compounds. Dr. John Finn, Trius’ Chief Scientific Officer (bio), will present a talk titled “Innovative Antibacterial Drugs by Design; …
