Pictures from our February 17th Event are now posted on Flickr. We had 100+ Biotechnology professionals, representing more than 50 companies, and it seemed that everyone had a great time. Nanosyn presented a short presentation on their capabilities, and it was well received. Here are some of the comments we heard:
“It’s a whole roomful of scientists…and they’re all talking to each other!”
“It was refreshing to talk science at a networking event!”
“I want to thank you–I got a job offer that resulted from one of your events.”
“Can you post a list …

We’ve reached our limit for the venue for our event tonight, but we’ve found that some space opens up throughout the night, so we’ll allow on-site registrations starting at 7:00 p.m., and the fee will be $15.

We’re working on something really cool for our March event. It will be a bit different in that we’re going to have a mini-workshop on networking skills. So, just about any company that wants to get exposure to a large number of biotechnology decision makers can sponsor. We also expect to attract some of the local media with this event. If you’re interested, please contact Mary.More...

The votes are in and Nanosyn will be our featured company at the Feb. 17th SDBN event. They’ll give a short presentation, which should be interesting. As you may know, CRO business is booming these days due to the downsizing at big pharma. I actually worked with them about a year ago as a client and in organizing a Fragment-based Lead Discovery conference.
Sign up soon, the event is fast approaching!

While I was putting together the directory of San Diego Biotechnology companies here on the site, the distribution of names that started with particular letters struck me. Being a scientist (long ago…), I decided to graph this phenomenon, counting the number of companies that begin with each letter. As you can see, the clear winner is the letter “A”. What is the reason for this, is there some sort of attachment to this letter due to the old days when “AAA Plumbing” would be listed first in the yellow pages? …More...

We hope you had an enjoyable holiday. We’ve been working on lining up events for ’09 and we think we’re close to announcing our next one…stay tuned!
’08 brought many challenges to the San Diego Biotechnology industry–some good and bad. We know that we had several layoffs at major companies, that is of course bad. But we also have a great opportunity in many emerging areas: green technology, nanotechnology, and several new areas of drug discovery such as stem cells and RNAi. San Diego is poised for much growth in …

Don’t know what to get your coworkers for the holidays? How about SDBN gear? We’ve created a variety of items at the SDBN Cafe Press store, http://cafepress.com/sdbn. Choose from a wide variety of T-shirts, sweatshirts, and other very “giftable” items. We’ve added $1 to the cost of each item to be donated to the SDBN events. Want to buy some items for yourself? Go ahead, we won’t tell! Show that you are a member of the SDBN, the premier biotechnology networking group in San Diego.More...
