The series includes two lectures: Molecular Mechanisms of Cellular Motility on May 13, 2009 and Molecular Mechanisms of Cytokinesis on May 15, 2009. Both begin at 4 p.m. in the Health Sciences Auditorium of the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD).
Dr. Pollard is renowned for his discoveries related to understanding the cytoskeleton of the cell and the basis of cell mobility and its relevance to human disease. During his 40-year career, Pollard served as Director of the Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy at Johns Hopkins Medical School and President of the Salk Institute for Biological Studies. He has held numerous advisory positions, including the Presidency of the Institute of Medicine, and has received a host of prestigious awards, including a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Gairdner International Award and the E.B. Wilson Medal. Dr. Pollard is currently the Sterling Professor and Chair of the Department of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology at Yale University.
