Robert is a postdoctoral research fellow at UC San Diego, and on the executive team for San Diego for Science, a newly formed 501c3 nonprofit that organizes the yearly March For Science – San Diego. He is studying how bacterial hand-to-hand combat helps predator bacteria steal antibiotic resistance genes from their vanquished prey, and how that speeds the emergence of multi drug-resistant superbugs. He enjoys sharing the thrill of science, which in addition to spearheading the expo at last year’s March For Science, he has done as an Explainer in the Smithsonian’s National Air & Space Museum, the official Science & News Junkie of the Princeton student climate action group SURGE, a summer mentor with UCSD’s START program, invited speaker at Pint Of Science and Suds & Science, and a bar-hopping scientist with the Fleet Center’s #2Scientists Walk Into A Bar. He will philosophize with anyone about anything, and has been known to get lost deep enough in thought that passersby start offering directions.
