SDBN was very involved with the April 2017 March for Science San Diego (MSSD), our members marched, volunteered, and sponsored the very successful event with 15,000 participants. The national March for Science organization is still going strong, and we’re keeping the momentum going in San Diego. We’re raising money for local cancer research by organizing a Padres Pedal the Cause Team. Our team?will raise money and cycle 25+ miles in the event November 11, and we’re holding a fundraiser September 14th to cover the team’s cycling gear (cycling jerseys, shorts) and to contribute to the team’s fund. In order to ensure that life saving research continues to thrive in San Diego, we need not only funding, but to build more bridges between scientists and the public.
Towards this goal, we’re planning a fun Pub Crawl for Science event September 14th, at the newly formed “Miralani Makers District,” which contains 3 beer breweries, 2 wineries, and a sake brewery all in one business park, see map by clicking here. Registrants will receive a punch card and the “pub crawl” will be visiting 4 of the participating establishments and getting their card punched at each (purchases are NOT required). For everyone who completes their punch card, we’ll have a raffle of many items from the breweries, wineries, and life science businesses, see list of items here. In addition, all attendees will receive a limited edition March for Science San Diego pint glass, which will only be available at the event! You can get up to 4 raffle cards and pint glasses per attendee, which you can use for yourself or invite friends, sign up for the Pub Crawl for Science event by clicking here. If only scientists attend, we defeat the purpose as we’re all re-funding ourselves, so please invite your non-scientist friends and family.
In addition to raising funds for local cancer research at this event, we’ll help scientists and groups to connect with everyone who supports local scientific research and the March for Science. We’ll have some fun and informative activities to help you learn more about the great science happening in the region. Click here to register for the September 14th event, and if you’re a scientist who can help with the activities at the event, let us know on the form.
Also, there’s still time to join our Padres Pedal the Cause team, see details here. If you can’t attend the Sept. 14th event, you can still donate to our team and directly support local cancer research, and please do!
We’ll also have El Shrimp Bucket food truck (menu) and Deli Sushi and Desserts is participating in the event (CASH only). Dinner is not included in the registration price, and both will have vegetarian/non seafood options.
We’re offering $500 sponsorships for our Padres Pedal the Cause team, the benefits include:
- Linked logo on our team page and MSSD/SDBN landing pages
- Logo on March for Science San Diego Padres Pedal the Cause cycling jerseys
- Raffle item/presentation at Sept. 14th event
- “Thank you” social media posts to our combined SDBN/MSSD 20,000+ followers
The deadline to be included on the team jerseys is September 11th, contact us soon to sponsor!
