SDBN Speed Networking July 26th 2017: Reboot Your Life Science Network

2017 has been an interesting year, our members raised the funds to launch the highly successful March for Science San Diego in April, had BIO 2017 in June, and more networking organizations, shared labs, and groups are forming to strengthen the San Diego life science ecosphere. Formal SDBN events have been lagging, while organizations such as the SDEE are going full force and providing useful resources to the community. We are “rebooting” the SDBN with our Speed Networking event July 26th. We’ll get feedback from you on what you want from the event and going forward, provide more volunteer opportunities, and events aimed at bridging the gap between scientists and the public.

About the event: Our beloved Green Flash Tasting Room in Mira Mesa is so successful that they are now opening to the public on Monday nights, so we can no longer host our large speed networking events (but they have a cool new front area that we may host smaller events at, stay tuned.) We’ll be having our July 26th Speed Networking event at Karl Strauss Tasting Room off of the 5, south of La Jolla. Note that this is NOT the Sorrento Valley location, you’ve likely glanced at this location while traveling up the 5, just to the east. They’ve built a great outdoor tasting room next to their HQ which has been there since 1996. Its somewhat “off the beaten path” but convenient location which will be perfect for our event–if you’ve never been there, note the directions carefully, as it’s right off the freeway, but accessible only by traveling 2 miles on a frontage road. When you get there, you’ll see that it’s worth the drive, and we have enough space to make this the biggest speed networking event yet!

We’re also making some changes to the speed networking to improve. We’ll work to get more industry representatives at the event, as well as to connect those with similar interests more directly. Click here to register and we’ll see you July 26th at Karl Strauss Tasting Room (NOT Sorrento Valley location)!

Event Update: We are using the mobile app Whova to facilitate networking at this event! You’ll be able to schedule 1 on 1 meetings in the first hour of the event (5:30-6:30) and during the last half hour (8:30-9:00), check out our quick video to learn more. After you register and pay for the event, you’ll get your invitation to the application.

Directions: **New Location–Karl Strauss just east of the 5 and south of La Jolla, NOT Sorrento Valley** For Google Maps directions/navigation click here. From La Jolla or Sorrento Valley, take the 5 south to Balboa/Garnet, at the second light, take a sharp left on Damon, when it dead ends take a left on Santa Fe. You will then travel for ~2 miles north to 5985 Santa Fe St, San Diego, CA 92109 on your right. You will feel like you’re backtracking parallel to the 5, but this is the fastest way to get there. We’ll have a nice big space to fill at this location so this “backtracking” will be worth it. Park on the street or at the Karl Strauss HQ which is just south of the tasting room at 5965 Santa Fe.

  1. Dear SDBN team,

This is Bi-Huei Yang a postdoctoral researcher from UCSD. Thanks a lot for organizing this event. I’m wondering if there is any opportunity for volunteers. If yes, I’d love to contribute.
